With our app for Android tablets, you can watch anywhere, whether you’re into True Detective at the train station, Game of Thrones at the gym or Cars at the café. Plus, with Watch Offline you can enjoy Pompeii on the plane or Homeland on holiday.
Just download and install the app, sign in and you’re ready to enjoy all your favourite movies and TV shows! We’ll assume you’ve connected your tablet to a UK based Wi-Fi connection before reading this.
Just so you know, this article is all about getting going and using the app. If you’re having any trouble, take a look at this article instead and we’ll get everything sorted.
How do I get started?
You’ll need at least version 4 of Android to enjoy our app, and for Watch Offline, you can't use KitKat 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 or Lollipop. To check your version, just go to Settings > About Device > Android version. Your tablet will also need to be able to play Widevine-protected content. If yours doesn’t, we’ll tell you when you launch the app. Finally, your tablet should have Google Play store – so you can’t use some tablets that don’t, like the Amazon Kindle range.
All up to date? Great. Now just:
- Download the blinkbox Movies app by searching for ‘blinkbox’ on the Google Play store. You’ll need an Android tablet to do this, and you’re looking for the blinkbox – Watch Movies & TV app.
- To sign in to your blinkbox account, or get a new one, just choose the account icon.
- We’ll then ask you to login to your account. If you don’t have one, just tap the ‘Sign up’ button, and you’ll be able to create one using your web browser.
- Once you’re signed in, press the back button to get to the main page.
How do I find and purchase movies and TV shows?
It’s really easy. We’ll show you some of our latest and greatest stuff right on the main page, but you can also browse or search for anything in our library.
Tap the spyglass in the top right hand corner of the application, and a keyboard will appear. Just start typing what you’re looking for (you can search by title, actor or – if you’re feeling particularly clever – director). We’ll show you results as you’re typing, but you can press ‘Done’ on the keyboard to get a little more space if you’ve finished typing.
Once you’ve found something you fancy, just tap into it and choose ‘Watch now’. Here, you’ll see all the different purchase options (or the episodes if it’s a TV show). Pick the one you’d like – it’s possible to enjoy movies and TV shows on your tablet in up to HD.
You’ll be taken to the confirm purchase screen, where you can use a saved card or add a new one, and add a voucher if you’ve got one.
You can use the drop down menus in the top left corner of the main page to help you browse our library, choosing between featured and popular content, genres that interest you and TV shows or movies. You can scroll left and right using your finger.
Once you’ve found something you’d like to watch, tap into it to see all of the different purchase options (or episodes and series if it’s a TV show). Pick the one you’d like to get to the confirmation screen, where you can use a saved card or add a new one, and add a voucher if you’ve got one.
How do I watch movies and TV?
From the main screen, just choose the Account icon (it’s the head and shoulders icon in the top right corner of the screen) and we’ll take you to ‘My Library’. Here, you’ll see all of your movies and TV shows ready to watch and enjoy on the go. Just tap the one you’d like.
If you’ve chosen a TV show, we’ll take you to a page where you can decide which episode you’d like to watch first. You can scroll left and right to decide which one you want.
How do I download movies and TV?
With the latest version of our app for Android tablets, it’s possible to download your movies and TV episodes over Wi-Fi in standard quality or high definition, and then enjoy them on the go. If you don’t see the functionality below on your app, you’ll need to update it. Unfortunately, watch offline isn’t compatible with Android KitKat 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 or Lollipop because of a known fault with the Android OS.
You can watch or download your purchased movies and TV episodes on up to five devices. If you choose to download a rented movie, you’ll only be able to watch it on the screen of your tablet and won’t be able to watch it anywhere else, including via Chromecast.
To get started, just choose the Account icon (it’s the head and shoulders icon in the top right corner of the screen) and we’ll take you to ‘My Library’.
Here, you’ll see all of your movies and TV shows ready to watch and enjoy from anywhere. Just tap the one you’d like, and then choose the Download button.
By default, all downloads are in standard definition. If you’d rather download in 720p HD, you can do so by going to the settings menu in the top left. Here, you’ll be able to switch on HD – but this won’t affect your existing downloads, or downloads already in progress. HD files are bigger, use more data and take up more space on your device.
To download a TV episode, just scroll down to the My TV shows section of your library. Pick a TV show you’re interested in, then choose the watch episodes button. Find the episode you want to watch and choose the download button. If something’s already downloading, we’ll add it to the queue instead.
Once you’ve started your download, it’ll appear in My downloads in the top right hand corner of the screen. Here, you’ll be able to check the progress of your download.
If you’ve got more than one movie or TV episode in your download manager, you can use the up button to move a title to the top of the list. It’ll start downloading straight away, and your existing download will be paused.
If you leave the app you can monitor the progress of your downloads in the notifications area of your tablet by dragging your finger down from the top of the screen.
Once your download is complete, it’ll be available from the My downloads section of the app. To enjoy your download, just press the play button. Your content will start playing back straight away. You don’t need to be online to start playing, but will need to reconnect to a UK based internet connection whilst the app is open at least once every 30 days – this is so we can check your licenses.
If you’d like to make some more space on your device, you can delete a download by choosing the remove button, and then pressing the ‘Remove download’ option to confirm.
How do I watch with my Chromecast?
Once you’ve setup your Chromecast and ensured you’re connected to the same wireless network as it is, it’s really easy to cast from our Android app. Simply:
- Open the app, press the cast button in the top right hand corner and select your Chromecast.
- Your Chromecast will show a ‘Ready to cast’ screen, so you know everything’s connected properly.
- Choose the movie or TV show you’d like to watch, and you’ll be able to use your Android tablet as a remote control. You can manipulate the volume, or drag the playback bar to choose another part of the movie to watch.
Once your movie has started, you’ll be able to do whatever you’d like on your tablet – the movie will keep playing in the background. Just press the home button and use your tablet as normal. When you’d like to get back to controlling the movie, simply re-open the blinkbox app or scroll down from the top menu bar to access playback controls.

Where’s my watch later list?
From the main screen, just choose the Account icon (it’s the head and shoulders icon in the top right corner of the screen) and we’ll take you to ‘My Library’. Just tap the ‘Watch Later’ button to see all your saved items, and tap one if you’d like to purchase it.
You can add new items to the watch later list from the search results or by browsing sections on your tablet. Just drag the image down until you see a ‘plus’ icon appear, then let go. We’ll add the movie or TV show to your list straight away.
