No great plan goes off without a hitch (just ask any Bond villain), but that doesn’t mean we can’t get you back up and running quickly and easily. Here are some issues customers sometimes experience with the iPad, and how to solve them. If you just wanted to find out about the iPad app, click here.
How do I update my iPad OS?
You can complete the update right on your iPad. Simply plug in your device to a power source and make sure it’s connected to Wi-Fi, then tap Settings > General > Software Update. Choose Download and Install to download the update, and then tap Install when the download completes.
That’s all there is to it.
How do I update the TalkTalk TV Player app?
You’ll know there are updates available for apps on your iPad when the App Store shows a red circle with a number inside it. To check if there’s an update for TalkTalk TV Player, just tap the App Store icon on your home screen, then choose updates at the bottom of the app. You’ll see a list of everything you can update.
If there’s a TalkTalk TV Player update, just press the ‘Update’ button, tap in your iTunes password (or provide a Touch ID) and our app will update. Just so you know, if you’re running iOS 8 you might find your apps update automatically. It depends on how you’ve got your iPad set up.
How do I sign up to TalkTalk TV Store on my iPad?
Sorry, it’s not possible to join TalkTalk TV Store from directly within the app, but you can create an account on the T website, which works on your computer, or in Safari on your iPad. Just visit www.talktalktvstore.co.uk, sign up and make your first purchase. You’ll then be able to kick back and enjoy it on the iPad app.
How do I purchase movies and TV shows on my iPad?
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to purchase content from directly within the TalkTalk TV Player app, but you can make purchases on the TalkTalk TV Store website, which works on your computer, or in Safari on your iPad. Just visit www.talktalktvstore.co.uk, log in and purchase as normal.
Open the iPad app again (you won’t be able to watch in your iPad browser) and refresh it. Your new content will appear straightaway and be ready to view.
Why can't I use Chromecast offline with my downloads?
Google Chromecast works by streaming your movie from the internet, whilst using your iPad as a remote. It doesn’t stream directly from your device. Because of this, if your Chromecast and iPad aren’t both connected to the internet with the same Wi-Fi connection, they can’t communicate with each other or our servers, so your movie can’t play.
Why can't I use Chromecast once I've downloaded a rental?
When you rent a movie from TalkTalk TV Store, you can either watch it on two devices (like your tablet and your Chromecast), or download it to one device. Because the Chromecast is a different device, which just uses your iPad as a remote, once you’ve downloaded a rented movie to your tablet, you can’t watch it using your Chromecast.
Why can't I connect to my TV using Airplay?
Airplay is a streaming technology that lets you mirror the screen of your iPad onto an Apple TV. Sorry, but for security reasons, this options is not compatible with the TalkTalk TV Player app. There are lots of other ways to enjoy our content on your TV, which you’ll find on our devices page.
Why is some content I purchased not appearing on my iPad?
Oops. Sorry to hear this. The first thing to try is refreshing the app by dragging down on the screen with your finger, then releasing and checking you’re connected to Wi-Fi. If you’ve done this and you still can’t see your new purchase, please get in touch right away and we’ll fix it for you so you can keep watching.
Why can’t I find the TalkTalk TV Player app in the App Store?
It should be really easy to find us, but Apple won’t show our TalkTalk TV Player app if your device isn’t compatible, so you’ll need to download directly to your iPad, or from the iTunes store on Windows or Mac, rather than from your phone.
You’ll also need to make sure your iPad is running iOS 8 or higher, which doesn’t support the very first iPad – so you’ll need either an iPad 2 or later or all models of iPad Mini and iPad Air.
Download button doesn't display
We're aware of an issue where occasionally, the download button doesn't display in the latest version of our iPad app, even though you've upgraded to the latest version. It's caused by a rendering problem, which we're working to fix.
To resolve the issue, scroll down so the title is no longer on your screen, then scroll back again. This usually refreshes the display so the button appears. If this doesn't work, you might need to close the app and open it again. We'll fix this bug in our next release.
Can't cast from downloads screen
We're aware of an issue where customers can't start a Chromecast session from the 'My downloads' section of the app, even though they're online and their content is owned, rather than rented. We'll fix this bug in our next release, but for now, you can still cast eligible content from the 'My movies' and 'My TV shows' sections of our app.
